Raleigh events for August for Preschoolers

Looking for fun, free things to do around the Triangle in the next few weeks? Our Raleigh preschool has put together a list of some events going on around the area, and each one is fun, free, and family-friendly!

Kick-Off to Kindergarten

Where: Marbles Museum, 201 East Hargett Street, Raleigh

When: Saturday, August 17th, 2019, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

If your preschooler is moving into kindergarten this year, they will love the Kick Off to Kindergarten at the Marbles Museum! This is great for any soon-to-be kindergarten student, but it's especially beneficial to children who may be anxious or worried about starting school. At the event, kids will not only celebrate starting school, they'll practice the lunch line, have recess, climb on the school bus, as well as enjoy lots of other fun activities.

Play Moore Music Festival

Where: Moore Square Park

When: Saturday, August 17th, 2019 3:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. 

After a lengthy renovation, Moore Square is up and thriving. Be sure to check it out by going to the Play Moore Music Festival, a celebration of Hip-Hop culture with plenty of music and dancing, plus graffiti art, breakers, and vendors filling up the Square. National acts, Rich Medina and DJ Lindsey will be taking the main stage, and local acts, including Brassiousmonk, Raleigh Rockers, and Napoleon Wright II will be performing, too! 

Lazy Daze Arts and Crafts Festival

Where: Cary Town Hall Campus 

When: Saturday, August 24th, 2019, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.p.m. & Sunday, August 25th, 2019, 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

It's a weekend of fun at the Lazy Daze Arts & Crafts Festival in Cary! Featuring over 300 artists, there's also plenty of food, drink, and live music to keep the atmosphere fun. They didn't forget the kids, either. Kids World has a live stage with story time, music, and exhibitions, plus crafts, toys, and food! There's also the indoor Play Zone featuring sports, games, and activities in the Herb Young Community Center. 

Packapalooza

Where: Hillsborough Street

When: Saturday, August 24th, 2019, 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

The 'Pack is back! Welcome the NC State Wolfpack back home at Packapalooza, a huge, family-friendly block party featuring games, music, and plenty of food and drinks!

The event is divided into zones, including: 

  • Green Zone: Learn about NC State’s work at becoming more eco-friendly
  • Art Zone: Arts and crafts, dancing, music, and theater
  • Public Safety Zone: Meet the NC State PD, Raleigh PD, and more. Kids will love to explore a fire truck, meet the K-9 unit and the horses of the Raleigh PD. 
  • Play Zone: Cool off with the roaring rapids water slide and the rampage slide
  • Wolfpack Zone: Meet the team!
  • International Zone: Students from all over the world perform and share their culture

African American Cultural Festival of Raleigh and Wake County

Where: Fayetteville Street (from Martin Street to City Plaza) 

When: Saturday, August 31st, 2019, 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Sunday, September 1st, 2019, 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. (Note: Family Village closes at 7:00 p.m.)

The 10th Annual African American Cultural Festival of Raleigh and Wake County is a weekend celebration of African American culture! There will be art along the Art Gallery Walk, music and dance on the Main Stage, traditional foods, and vendors displaying clothing, jewelry, home decor, and more. 

Your kids will love the interactive events in Family Village, where there will be stories, dance troupes, drum circles, and other exciting performances. Be sure to take the kids by the Make and Take tent where the children can do crafts.
